10/1

All athletes will have the day off; use the time to meet with teachers, catch up on homework and of course rest/relax. Everyone will meet at woodman field for practice on Saturday at 7:20am

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We as the MHS Cross Country Team would like ALL athletes to buy and sell at least ONE of our BCAM Sweatshirts for $32 each. Orders are due MONDAY, OCTOBER 4th. No orders will be accepted after this date. Shirts will be distributed at practice once they arrive.


The entire team should wear this sweatshirt for the Essex County Championship Meet at Brookdale Park on October 29th. A percentage of the monies raised will be donated to the Montclair High School Breast Cancer Awareness Club

Practice will resume at regular time tomorrow. All athletes should bring two bottles of water for practice and wear layers, as you can tell by todays weather the temps are dropping so please come prepared. Athletes who did not compete today, remember that tomorrow you will have a time trial, make sure you eat breakfast, lunch and stay hydrated throughout the day.

Athletes competing tomorrow, the bus will leave from Midland ave at 2:45pm. Make sure you pack layers and your uniform, extra water, snacks and a garbage bag. The weather calls for run the bag is for when you strip down to run out your layers in so they don’t get soaked as you compete.

9/23 Abbreviated Day

Reminder today is an abbreviated day. Freshman and JV athletes should do the following workout below at home on their own. Varsity athletes should report to woodman at 2:30pm. Also, please make sure to check blog later this evening for information on team gear and our breast cancer awareness fundraiser.


Warm-Up: 3 sets of jumping jacks for one minute. Thirty seconds rest between sets

Workout:

Circuit 1: Perform 5 reps of each movement with no rest between exercises. Complete six exercises to finish one round. Do 4 rounds total, with one minute rest between rounds.

1. Squat

2. Push up

3. Leg raises

4. Push up

5. Squat

6. Leg raises


Circuit 2: Perform each move for 60 seconds, resting 15 seconds between each one. Complete all five exercises to finish one round. Do 3 to 5 rounds total. 

1. Squats

2. Crunches

3. Front plank

4. Side plank


Cool down: repeat warm up followed by stretching, hold each stretch for 30 seconds.

Second Meet

The bus will leave from Midland avenue at 2:45 tomorrow. Like last week athletes should bring 2-3 bottles of water, snacks, layers and of course prepared to compete. As stated in the team policy we would like all athletes to stay for the duration of the meet unless there are prior plans which the coaching staff must be notified of before the meet. Please see race times below.

Reminder there is no practice tomorrow, athletes are asked to do the prescribed workouts below. Parents please fill out the emergency contact google form linked to the right, we need this information as a preventative measure while at practice, on the road for meets and so we can get you information from the booster club (amongst other things). Also, families please make sure you read and go over the team policy document.

Home Workout;

Freshman; 

Warmup: 3 sets of 30 second jumping jacks, 10 squats, 10 push ups followed by light stretching

Workout: Easy 40 minute run


JV/Varsity:

Warmup: runner warmup on the nike app

Workout Easy 6 mile run, runner cool down on nike app when done

Opening Day

Tomorrow will be our first meet of the season; athletes competing were informed today at practice. The bus will leave from the Midland avenue entrance of the school at 2:45pm. Athletes should pack waters specifically for the meet as well as snacks. If you have refillable water bottles make sure you refill them before coming to the bus so that you will have an ample supply.

The freshman race (boys and girls combined) goes off at 4pm, varsity boys at 5pm, varsity girls at 5:15 and the JV race (boys and girls combined) goes off at 5:45pm. Parents the directions to Branch Brook park are on the second page of the schedule and we have also uploaded a map of the course for both athletes and families alike(under meet info). We have also posted a google form for the emergency contact information for all athletes on the team; families please fill this out as soon as possible.

Athletes please stay hydrated and eat during the day, come to the bus prepared, this means with water, snacks, dressed (yes layers included) and of course mentally ready to compete. Athletes not competing should do the workout below. There is no school Thursday so practice will be at 8am at Woodman field; if you are observing you are excused.

Home workout; 

Warmup: 5 minute jog followed by dynamics and drills

Workout: 2 x 10 minute run @ fast pace 4:00 rest between runs

Cool down: 4 sets of 20 jumping jacks and stretch

Updates

Tomorrow and Wednesdays practice will be at 8am; for those observing Rosh Hashanah you are excused from practice. Also, the most up to date roster has been posted, 

The team info. session will take place on Wednesday (9/8) at 7pm; the link to register for the meeting is posted under the info. tab to the right. We will go over general information about the team, the tryout process and the outlook for season ahead amongst other things. Families, please register sooner than later.

Tomorrow all levels (freshman, JV and Varsity) will meet at 7:30am at woodman field. Practice starts at 7:30 so you should arrive before then. As you all can tell the weather is changing so make sure you all wear layers and bring two bottles of water; also make sure you all fill out the daily screening form before arrival.... Be on time and come prepared

There will be no practice today, athletes should go to the app store and download the Nike training club app and find/do the workouts posted below in preparation for practice tomorrow. Once the app is downloaded you find workouts by clicking the workout tab at the bottom and then the browse tab above, where there will be a search bar that you can type in the workout names.
